Bob Sergesketter, age 74, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 11:36 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.
Bob was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on May 23, 1946, to Ted and Loraine (Zoglman) Sergesketter . He married Phyllis Leinenbach on July 24, 1971, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.
He was a 1964 graduate of Jasper High School.
He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Bob retired as a lineman for Insight Cable TV, where he had worked for the organization for over 40 years.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and V.F.W. Post #673.
He was an Explorer Post leader at Holy Family, taking the high school students on many outdoor activities.
He was an active caver, who was a member of the NSS, IKC, and EMG.
During his time in the Navy, he taught himself how to play the guitar and banjo, and how to read music. He played in various bands around town upon his return home.
He also enjoyed sailing, canoeing, and hiking, and was an avid bike rider.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Sergesketter, Jasper, IN, one daughter, Julie (Blane) Hoffman, Ireland, IN, one granddaughter, Lauren Hoffman, four sisters, Sharon Cox, Jasper, IN, Brenda (Terry) Chronert, Evansville, IN, Marilyn (Don) Casper, Jasper, IN, Patti (Tom) Harmon, Evansville, IN, two brothers, Ron (Pam) Sergesketter, and Gary (Diane) Segesketter, both of Jasper, IN, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is one brother-in-law, Ron Cox.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob Sergesketter will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military grave site rights.
A visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before services at the church on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Masks and social distancing are recommended.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, the Jasper Public Library, or to the wishes of the family.
