Betty Jean Welp, age 87 of Schnellville

Betty Jean Welp, age 87 of Schnellville, Indiana, passed away at 5:11 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2019 in Evansville, Indiana.   

Betty was born in St. Anthony, Indiana on May 21, 1932 to Anthony B. and Rose M.  (Drach) Haas.  She married Lee Joe Welp on August 11, 1951 in St. Anthony Catholic Church.   

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she participated in the Eucharistic Adoration and was a member of the St. Ann's Society.  She was also a member of the Schnellville Community Club, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Schnellville Home Ec., and the American Sewing Guild.     She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, cooking, gardening, playing euchre, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her many grandchildren.     

Surviving are her husband, Lee Joe Welp of Schnellville, five daughters, Mary Lee Uebelhor (Denis A.), Ferdinand, Shirley Messmer (Greg), Ireland, Ruth Vaughn (Roger), Schnellville, Janet Mehringer (Bob), Schnellville, and Theresa Gutgsell (Bernie), Schnellville, two sons, Jack Welp (Joyce), Schnellville, and Arnie Welp (St. Anthony), 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, three sisters, Virlee Hayden (Ray), Louisville, Marleen Hochgesang (Gene), Jasper, and Mary Jo Schwindel (Kelvin) St. Meinrad, and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Hopster (Don), Bretzville.   Preceding her in death was one great grandchild, Gabriel Nord who died in infancy, one brother, Bobby Haas, and one sister Diane Marie Haas who died in infancy.   

A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Jean Welp will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.   A visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10am Mass time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday.  The Divine Mercy Parish will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Divine Mercy Pipe Organ Fund at Sacred Heart Church or the Sacred Heart Cemetery fund.   Online condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com
