Bernita C. Metz, age 77, of St. Anthony, Indiana, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.
Bernita was born in Ferdinand, Indiana, on December 11, 1941, to Bernard and Ida (Begle) Hoppenjans. She married Linus Metz on May 26, 1962, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, in Ferdinand, Indiana. Bernita retired from Best Chairs, where she had worked as a seamstress for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Isidore Parish - St. Celestine Catholic Church and the American Sewer's Guild. She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, card making, flower gardening, cooking, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and spending time in Eucharistic Adoration. Her and her husband were also recipients of the Brute Award for their service in the Catholic faith. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are one daughter, Suzanne (Daniel) Knies, Jasper, IN, two sons, Brian (Joanie) Metz, Ferdinand, IN, Duane (Ann) Metz, Huntingburg, IN, five grandchildren, Rachel and Amy Metz, Lee and Blake Knies, and Bryce Metz, one sister, Lastie Carl, New Albany, IN, one brother, Donald Hoppenjans, Ferdinand, IN. Preceding her in death are one sister, Hermina Hoppenjans, and five brothers, John, Ernst, Alfred, Norman, and Richard Lange.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernita C. Metz will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at St. Celestine Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Isidore Parish or to a favorite charity.
