IRELAND -- Demolition began this week on St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

The parish recently moved into a newly built facility located in the lot behind the original church.

The bell at that church rang for the final time Thursday morning before the demolition got underway.

The original building was built back in 1904, but the church was founded in 1890 when a number of Catholics, who had been affiliated with St. Joseph Parish in Jasper, concluded that a parish should be established in Ireland to be closer to their places of residence.
