Wanted Man, Another Man Jailed After Leading Police on Dubois Co. Chase

JASPER -- A wanted man is in jail today after stealing a car and crashing it after leading police on a chase through Dubois County Wednesday.

Multiple drivers on I-64 called 911 Wednesday to report a Dodge Charger driving over 100 mph near mile marker 58.

Police caught up with the vehicle near the Ferdinand exit and was not able to catch up with the vehicle until they got to the 72 mile marker.

But the driver, 40-year-old Zeberiah Stilwell of Princeton, wasn’t going quietly.Arrest reports show troopers pursued the vehicle as the driver allegedly went through an INDOT road closure barricade, making a u-turn in the middle of the interstate and striking a trooper as he tried to exit his squad car before crashing into a ditch.

Stilwell and the other suspect, 22-year-old William McCarter of Vincennes then reportedly fled on foot.Police caught up with McCarter near the scene.Stilwell allegedly tried to break into a nearby home before he was apprehended.

They both face a long list of felonies. Stilwell is charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, auto theft, burglary, criminal recklessness, reckless driving and other charges.

He was wanted on burglary warrants out of Illinois and meth charges in Indiana.

McCarter is charged with a common nuisance charge, in addition to resisting police and possession of marijuana.

Both men are lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.

The trooper that was struck appears to be ok today.
