UNSEALED DOCUMENTS: Love Triangle Led to Birdseye Murder in 2017

BIRDSEYE -- New details in the murder of Darin Atkins in Birdseye last July, this as the court has unsealed documents in the case, following the arrest of two people.

We were first to report 40-year-old Jason Atkins and 41-year-old Sarah Andry made initial court appearances yesterday on charges of murder and aggravated battery.

News Director David Shepherd was in the courtroom as the judge entered not guilty verdicts on the suspects’ behalf and ordered a public defender to represent the pair going forward.

Court documents, unsealed yesterday, lay out a tense relationship between the suspects and the victim.

Police allege the female, Sarah Andry, had dated Darin and Jason off and on for the past few years.

That all came to a head last July when the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s home where an argument ensued.

Investigators say Jason Atkins admits to hitting the victim once in the head with a baseball bat, knocking him unconscious.

Now, he says he left the room while Andry allegedly beat the victim with the bat a second, possibly even a third time.

An autopsy showed the man died of blunt force trauma to the head.

During Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, both suspects were ordered to be held without bond on the murder charges.

They will be back in court once a public defender has been assigned.
