Dubois County Braces For, What Could Be, the Biggest Snow Storm to Hit the Area in Years

Jasper -- The Dubois County area is bracing for a potentially significant snow storm Sunday night into Tuesday, then, another big storm Thursday.

On our Facebook page, listeners described large lines at local grocery stores.  I can tell you first hand, I waited in line for about 25 minutes at Walmart Friday night. The people I spoke to in line seemed to be taking it all in stride. The biggest question I heard asked was, "How much snow are we going to get?"

That answer is hard to come by.  However, the National Weather Service is warning we could see four inches of snow..."or more."  They don't say how much more.  But the weather models were leaning  toward 4 - 6 inches by the time the storm moves out of Dubois and surrounding counties.  Higher amounts are possible.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis released a forecast map today showing our area at about an 80% change of seeing four or more inches of snow from this storm.

Bottom line... Totals are a bit lower today than they were yesterday but we still have a significant snowfall coming for our area.  A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect.  (CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL WATCH)  That will likely be bumped up to a warning at some point this weekend, which is generally done for storms producing four or more inches of snow.  This has been a tricky storm to forecast from the beginning.  We will have a clearer picture tomorrow.

Be prepared for a significant snow event for Dubois and surrounding counties starting overnight Sunday night and going through Tuesday morning.  The NWS says, " Travel could be difficult to impossible at times. Power outages are possible due to snow and previous ice accumulations on trees and power lines."

Stay tuned for the latest developments here on our website, on-air and on our Facebook page.

Another significant storm is possibly midweek.  That one we aren't as sure about yet.  But, be prepared for another possible event following Monday's storm.
