Suspect Caught in 16 Year Old’s Killing

Greenwood- A suspect is in custody in the killing of a 16-year-old’s killing in Greenwood.

Reports say the incident happened after 7:00 AM near US-31 and Worthsville Road. Greenwood Police say the victim, 16-year-old Temario Stokes Jr., was waiting at his bus stop when he was shot and killed.

The shooter, later identified as 18-year-old Tyrique Rashad El, would flee after. He was later caught and is custody of the Greenwood Police Department on preliminary murder charges.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown, but GPD believes Stokes was targeted.

His family said he was not a bad kid.

Stokes was a sophomore at Whiteland Community High School. Mental Health and grief counselors will be available as needed.

A press conference is scheduled for 11:00 AM in Greenwood.
