Semi Pulls Down Telephone Line, Pole in Jasper

Jasper - Tuesday evening a semi truck caught a telephone wire pulling down its pole, resulting in a temporarily closed road.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jasper Police Officers responded to the scene. According to the release, a 2013 Volvo Semi was following a GPS system that instructed the driver to turn off U.S. 231 onto 11th Street, then Mill Street.

While attempting to turn onto Mill Street, the semi caught onto a telephone wire owned by Frontier. The semi pulled on the wires causing the pole to break and fall onto 11th Street, blocking the roadway. Mill Street was closed for an hour following the incident.

No injuries were reported.

No citations or charges were issued in the incident.
