INDIANAPOLIS -- You'll encounter metal detectors at all pedestrian gates at the Indiana State Fair this year.

But the extensive security plan begins in the parking lot where Indianapolis police have trained officers ready to deal with crowd control and watching for any gang activity.

And they'll be tracking crime data in the area surrounding the fairgrounds.

That tactic was first employed last year--and it revealed a rash of vehicle break-ins, allowing officers to take preventive action.
