New Mental Health Facility Set to Open at the End of the Month in Huntingburg, Open House This Week

From Crossroads Behavioral Health

HUNTINGBURG -- Southern Indiana residents will soon have access to a range of new mental health services, with the opening of Crossroads Behavioral Health Hospital at the end of this month.  Formerly the location of St. Joseph’s Hospital at 1900 Medical Arts Drive | Huntingburg, IN 47542. Crossroads Behavioral Health is set to host an open house event for the public this Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 from 3-7pm/est.  With a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30pm/est.

The former St. Joseph’s Hospital has undergone recent construction and will re-open its doors as a state-of-the-art 16-bed geriatric psychiatric inpatient hospital after sitting empty since 2007.  The need for increased mental health access combined with the ease of making a referral to the new Crossroads Behavioral Health will prove to be beneficial to local seniors and their families. Crossroads will be a short-term inpatient unit that will focus solely on the mental health needs of senior citizens who are struggling with depression, anxiety, bi-polar, schizophrenia, psychosis, delusions, and more. The hospital will be a resource in treating seniors who have dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease and are experiencing potentially harmful behavioral changes such as physical aggression. Referrals can be made by a medical professional, family member, or an individual 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling a clinically staffed hotline at #800-676-6718. Once a referral is made, the patient will be assessed at their place of residence by a licensed clinician, who will guide the patient and their family through the admission process.

Patients at the new Crossroads Behavioral Health Hospital will be treated daily by a psychiatrist, psychologist, and medical doctor to ensure all physical and emotional needs are being assessed and treated appropriately. The physicians will be fully supported by specialized nurses, aids, social workers, discharge planners, and a dietary team. The typical length of stay for a patient at the hospital will be approximately 7-14 days. Family will be welcome to visit their loved one daily and will receive much-needed guidance, support, and discharge planning by a Master’s level social worker.

The short-term inpatient psychiatric hospital will specialize in treating the elderly population by addressing each patient’s individual needs such as modified diets; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; as well as providing daily programming and stimulating activities.

“St. Joe’s is about to make a big comeback as Crossroads Behavioral Health Hospital, and we are ready to make a positive impact on the community once again by partnering with other healthcare professionals and the community in an effort to help local seniors.”  states Shana Weyer, RN, Hospital Admissions Manager for Crossroads.
