HUNTINGBURG -- Crossroads Behavioral Health will start accepting patients later this month at the site of the former St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg.  A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday.

"St. Joe's Hospital was such a tremendous part of this community," explains Sara Schroeder with the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce.  "People either had some of their best moments here, or some of their worst.  Regardless, everyone has an emotional connection to this building."

Officials broke ground on the new Crossroads Behavioral Health almost exactly a year ago.

The main floor of the facility will be dedicated to behavioral health for the general population.  Complete geriatric psychiatry care will be available on the second floor with 16 available beds.

The two catholic statues outside of the old St. Joseph Hospital building are finding a new home at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

"This is a way for us to commemorate our own Catholic faith, our own Catholic identity," says father Ryan Hilderbrand from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntingburg.  "But also the service that is provided to the larger community regardless of faith and to people of no faith."
