Nearly 50 AK Steel Workers to Be Laid Off at the End of the Month

ROCKPORT -- Nearly 50 workers at AK Steel in Rockport will be out of work at the end of the month.

WEHT-TV reports the announcement came from the United Auto Workers Local 3044.  It will be temporarily reducing operations starting March 31^st.

Last week, an employee at AK Steel tested positive for COVID-19 after being at work one day before coming down with symptoms.

We don’t yet know if that had anything to do with the decision to shut down temporarily.
