NE Dubois School Board Holds First Meeting of 2025
On Thursday night, the Northeast Dubois County School Corporation assembled for their first
regular meeting of the year.
The board’s agenda was largely focused on providing enrichment opportunities for Jeeps this
year. Superintendent Tara Rasche’s request to renew the agreement between Lost River Career
Cooperative and Northeast Dubois County School Corporation was approved. This annual
agreement between the Cooperative and the district allows high school students to attend
classes there, which Rasche noted was a “great opportunity.”
A series of field trips was approved by the board, allowing Jeeps to participate in some eagerly
anticipated events. In February, the FFA will attend the National Farm Machinery Show in
Louisville. Later in the month, education classes will visit the Ed Rising State Conference in
Indianapolis. In March, the BPA will participate in the State competition in Indianapolis. Drama
Club members will be attending a production of Romeo & Juliet at Louisville’s Kentucky Arts
Center in April.
There are a couple of important dates for families to remember, as there are some upcoming
snow day makeups. February 17 will be a makeup day for January 7, and March 21 will be the
makeup day for January 8. Kindergarten Roundup was held on Thursday night, but paperwork
can be turned in any time until February 14. Remember that children who will be turning 5 on
or before August 1, 2025 should be signed up for Kindergarten. Registration forms can be found
on the school website.
The district is in the process of developing an Education Operation Transfer Savings Task Force.
Dr. Rasche explained that the purpose of the group is to save money in order to minimize the
transfer of funds from educational to the operational expenses. By optimizing current funds
available and minimizing extraneous expenditures, the district hopes to preserve more funds
for educational expenses.
Before adjourning the meeting, Dr. Rasche took time to note that January is School Board
Appreciation Month. She recognized the board with a statement, saying their “commitment to
excellence has truly been inspiring. Thank you for making a difference for our students. Schools,
and our community. Thank you very much for the work that you do.”
