Monroe Lake hosts two Flora Field Days, Sept. 3 and Oct. 1

Monroe Lake will host two Flora Field Days with a focus on identifying fall-blooming wildflowers. These sessions are an opportunity for guests to learn how to use a traditional field guide correctly and practice their skills alongside a park naturalist.

The sessions are both scheduled for Tuesdays, Sept. 3 and Oct. 1, at 9:30 a.m. Registration is required by the Sunday preceding each date. The September session will be held at Cutright State Recreation Area. Register at tinyurl.com/florafield-sep2024. In October, participants will meet at Fairfax State Recreation Area and should register at tinyurl.com/florafield-oct2024.

Interpretive naturalist Jill Vance will lead the field days. She recommends bringing insect repellant, hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle. Participants will be working with Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide. Extra books will be available to borrow during the sessions for those who don’t have their own.

Both sessions are free, though there is an entrance fee charged at Fairfax SRA of $7 per vehicle with an Indiana license plate and $9 per vehicle with out-of-state plates. Entrance to Cutright SRA is free.

Questions should be directed to Vance at the Paynetown Activity Center, 812-837-9967 or [email protected].
