Manhunt Over Thanks to Tip From Concerned Citizen

PERRY CO. -- A manhunt in the Hoosier National Forest in Perry County is over after a citizen tip leads police to their suspect.

Conservation officers say 54-year-old Mark Cates was caught illegally digging for artifacts on federal property when he ran from police into the woods.

A citizen alerted officers of a suspicious male in the driveway of a nearby home.Turned out it was Cates.

Turns out he has multiple outstanding felony warrants.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

Cates is being charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernallia and Disturbing Federal Ground in Search of Artifacts.

He’ll also have to face those outstanding felony warrants.
