POLICE: Man With a Gun in Jasper Drives Recklessly, Crashes in Orange County, Airlifted to Hospital

# NEW -- ISP has released updated information...... ISP units assisted the Dubois County Sheriff's Department and Jasper City Police Department with a suicidal subject that had a gun to his head in the middle of the roadway. Prior to officers' arrival the subject left the area in a vehicle. 

The vehicle was located and failed to stop for officers. ISP Trooper Noah Ewing, was able to set up stop sticks, which the vehicle struck and continued on. 


The vehicle then struck another set of stop sticks possibly deployed by Orange County Department. 

The vehicle then crashed a short distance later and ended up on its side. Fire Departments were on scene and the roadway was closed at SR56 and CR1175 west. 

The driver was located at the scene and transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital and then flown to Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. 

 On 10-11-19 at 1:35 hours, a bb gun was located inside the vehicle. ISP will be working the crash investigation while the Dubois County SD will be taking the arrest. 

One lane of SR56 was closed for a time. The Investigation is ongoing. 

At the scene were Indiana State Police at Jasper, Orange County Sheriffs Department, Dubois County Sheriffs Department and Jasper City Police Department.


JASPER -- The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man with a gun overnight in the area of Baden Strasse in Jasper just before midnight.

He was located in the Walmart parking lot driving recklessly.

He continued northbound on U.S. 231 in Haysville then crossed into Orange County where he crashed on SR 56.

The suspect had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown to a hospital in Evansville.

Police are not releasing the man’s name yet, due to the severity of his injuries. We do not know the extent of those injuries.

JPD, State Police, and several other agencies assisted.
