Knox County Officials Considering Tax Abatement to Get Coal Mine Company to Invest in Oaktown

OAKTOWN, Ind. -- Councilors in Knox County are considering a huge tax abatement in order to get a major coal mining company to invest in it's Oaktown operation. 


Sunrise Coal Company, which is based in Terre Haute, is planning to invest 60-million-dollars in the operation in the small Knox County town. It would create 60 new jobs if all falls into place. Right now, the Oaktown mine has 300 workers making an average hourly wage of 27-dollars-an-hour.
