Jasper’s New Municipal Pool is Taking Shape
With summer approaching quickly, preparations are in high gear for the new municipal pool’s
opening.
At the Jasper Redevelopment Authority meeting early on Wednesday morning, attention was
focused on the new municipal pool. After opening the meeting, a claim of $952,382.29 was
approved for Taber Owens Construction Group. The claim was for construction work completed
through March 31.
Park Department Director Tom Moorman provided an update to the board on the pool’s
construction progress. The diving platform and fence have been poured, and the flooring is
complete in all of the buildings. Rock will be added to complete landscaping at the new tree line
adjacent to St. Thomas Medical Center, and which is shared by both properties. The new trees
have been planted, with twenty arborvitae and spruce trees now in place.
New photos show that islands and sidewalks have been poured. The Ninja Cross, Water Tables,
and Wet Deck have been installed. The sign, which will be designed in the same style as other
local monument signs, will read “Jasper Municipal Pool.” Moorman said that a vendor training
will be held at the Habig Center on Wednesday for Parks staff to learn about the badge making
process. This will allow for season pass sales to begin. Pool pricing has been set, with daily
admission of $5 and individual season passes for $60. Admission is free for guests 4 and under.
Lockers will be available for $5. Party tent rentals are available at $50 for 3 hours, and pool
party rentals are also available for groups of 25 or more.
Moorman said that almost all of the targeted 30 lifeguards have been hired, although a large
number of 15-year-old hires will limit scheduling options to some degree. The department is
targeting May 2 nd or 3 rd to fill the pool with water, as staff training has been scheduled for
Saturday, May 10 th . Moorman still hopes to have a soft opening on May 18 th ahead of the
official Memorial Day weekend opening on Saturday, May 24 th .
