Jasper Chamber to Host Legislative Breakfast Saturday, Dubois County Democrats Upset Over Format Change

FROM LOCAL SOURCES

JASPER -- The Jasper Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Legislative Breakfast this weekend, but the Dubois County Democratic party isn't happy with a change to the format.

It will be Saturday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the VUJC in the CTIM Building.

The free event allows you to come out and meet your state lawmakers and hear them discuss items they are working on.

Snacks will be provided.

The Dubois County Democratic Party is asking the Jasper Chamber not to implement changes to that Legislative Breakfast.  In years past, citizens were able to ask the state lawmakers questions orally.  But, last year, party leaders say the Chamber changed the format, only accepting written questions, which were then asked by the moderator.

Local democrats say the format should be unfiltered and spontaneous, allowing voters to talk to their legislators as equals.  The party sent a letter to the Jasper Chamber on Friday asking them to rethink the change in format.

They are also requesting a non-partisan moderator.  They point out that Chamber President Nancy Eckerle is a republican member of the Jasper City Council.
