Jasper Arts Prepares for 50 th Anniversary Season

At Tuesday night’s board meeting, Jasper Arts discussed avenues for distinguishing their fiftieth anniversary year. The potential lineup for JCA’s next season includes comedians, world music, award-winning contemporary artists, and family shows. The board granted artist approval for next season and authorized artist deposits when deemed necessary to secure performances. JCA is actively seeking new sponsors this year and will be providing more opportunities for season-long sponsorship. The ticket price schedule was approved by the board as presented.

The Clay Open Studio is excited to announce Kids Clay for 3-to-8-year-olds, which will present one class a month with two sessions. Camp Create during Spring Break was a success, with a full roster, and JCA looks forward to the next camp this summer. Registration will open this month and is expected to sell out quickly. The in-school artist residency program for this year is concluding and will continue next year thanks to a generous grant from the Dubois County Community Foundation.

This month’s First Thursday event will be April 3. The Gallery Talk from 5-7 pm will feature artists Sheil Fox and Abbigayle Poirer, who will be on hand to discuss their work. A separate opening will be held on April 9 for the upcoming Steve Gerberich installation.

On April 27 from 12-2, the annual SOUP-Port the Arts fundraising event will be held at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center Atrium. Proceeds will benefit traveling gallery exhibits, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Visitors can pick out a handmade ceramic bowl for $25, with soup, bread, and drink included. Some local restaurants donating soup for the event include Oink, Café Pina, Schnitzelbank, Sultan’s Run, and Emerald Greens.

Chalk Walk returns to the Thyen-Clark Center on May 17 from 8-2. Those who register by the early bird deadline of April 20 will get a free T-shirt. The family-friendly event will feature creative activities, two performances by Squonk, multiple food vendors, and balloon artists.
