Forest Service Completes Projects on Hoosier National Forest

Tell City- With funding provided by the Great American Outdoors Act, the Forest Service recently completed several projects to improve recreation facilities on the Hoosier National Forest. In the first project, five boat launches on popular fishing lakes were repaired to improve fishing and boating access.  The lakes include Indian, Celina, Tipsaw, and Saddle Lakes in Perry County, and Springs Valley Lake in Orange County.  The water levels were lowered and gravel was placed in and around the ramps to provide a more even surface and allow for safer footing.  The Springs Valley Lake boat ramp also received repairs to the concrete.

The second project improved the road to the campgrounds at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area in Perry County.  It involved the removal and replacement of failing subgrade material and the application of a base coat of asphalt over new prepared subgrade. In addition, this project included a final surface course of asphalt over the whole campground road.  The upgrades will provide better access and an improved visitor experience for campers.
