EVANSVILLE -- The city of Evansville has canceled its Fourth of July fireworks celebration due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Josh Armstrong, president of the Evansville Economic Improvement District, says "Fireworks on the Ohio" had to be canceled because they cannot predict the future rates of infection, plus the last two months have impacted many companies that normally sponsor the fireworks display.

An estimated 25,000 to 35,000 people attend the Fourth of July celebration in Evansville every year.
