Celestine Ready to Welcome Back Streetfest After Missing 2020

By Kris Norton

Celestine - After a year away due to the pandemic, Celestine is ready to welcome back their Streetfest on June 26th in a big way.

The one-day, 17-hour event will run the gamut from a car and tractor show, to an international-travelling rock tribute group. The free-to-attend Streetfest is a celebration, and fundraiser much needed for the community, says Board Member Tony Buechler.

"The fest is a combined fundraiser for all of the main organizations in Celestine, it profits the Celestine Community Club, the Celestine Park, the Good Shephard of the Hills Knights of Columbus, the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department, the Northeast Dubois Parent Teacher Organizations, and the Saint Isreal Parish - so it is combined fundraiser that provides all of those groups with several thousand dollars. So the fact that we lost 2020 is pretty hurtful to those groups, because most of them lost their fundraisers as well"

The Saturday festivities begin at 8:00 a.m. with a Car Show, Tractor Show, and a 5K run and walk. Though it is not your typical 5K, Buechler says.

"I will tell you, I think most folks that have been out to the Patoka Lake area know it's not flat, and Celestine is not flat," Buechler said. "So the 5K is not a simple 5K, there are some rolling hills."

The early morning will see a number of children's activities, including inflatables, a pedal tractor pull, and a fun run. The kids fun isn't limited to the morning, Bob Ahlemeier will present "Magic with Style" at 6:15 p.m.

As the sun begins to set, the musical acts come out. The night is headlined by Dallas's Def Legend, a nationally-travelling tribute to Def Leppard at 9:00 p.m. As always, Boogie Tunes Entertainment caps of the night with DJ party music from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Streetfest touts free attendance, free parking, and free beer garden access.
