BREAKING NEWS: Dubois County School Officials Release Reopening Plan

JASPER -- Dubois County School Officials met Tuesday morning to approve a county-wide school reopening plan.

Parents will have two options for their studnets.  They can send their student to school on-time for in-person instruction starting August 12th.  Parents can also choose to enroll students in a COVID Online Academy.  If they do that, they will not be eligible for sports or extra-curricular activities.

For those attending classes in-person, officials say masks will be recommended.  Students will be assigned seats in classrooms, on buses and in the cafeteria.  Seats will also be spaced out to maintain proper social distancing.  Also, high touch areas through the school will be cleaned and sanitized daily.

School officials in Jasper released the following statement Tuesday morning (but all Dubois County Schools will follow the same plan).  "

Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools, in collaboration with all other Dubois County School Districts worked to develop a framework to safely and appropriately reopen for the 2020-2021 school year. An immense amount of guidance and information has been used to inform our reentry plan."

Those officials say all components of the plan follow directives from Governor Eric Holcomb and considers information and guidance from the CDC, Indiana State Health Department, Dubois County Health Department and Indiana Department of Education.

"Our schools will use a data-based approach to determining school operations as it relates to maintaining educational opportunities for all students regarding COVID-19. The plan can be located on our website at www.gjcs.k12.in.us.It is our intent to return to in-person instruction on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 as long as local and state data indicate it is appropriate. While a public health emergency exists, students may opt for a COVID online academy instead of in-person instruction. Families opting for the online academy must commit to at least a semester. A drop/add period will be available till September 1, 2020. The COVID online academy curriculum is limited and students who opt for virtual instead of in-person attendance will not be eligible to participate in extra-curricular, co-curricular or athletics."

Online enrollment information for ALL students will be forthcoming.

"We believe that the social, emotional and academic development of students is best accomplished through personal interactions with teachers and other students. Enhanced efforts to promote a safe learning environment will allow us to make this a reality. We anxiously await the return of all students and staff for the 2020-2021 school year!"
