ALERT: Scammers Posing as Law Enforcement to Steal Your Personal Information Over the Phone

BY: DAVID SHEPHERD, NEWS DIRECTOR

AREAWIDE -- Local authorities are reporting another scam targeting area residents.

This one is a phone scam, where the caller pretends to be from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.  Other times, the caller identifies themselves as a federal officer.

The scammer tells the potential victim that there is a warrant for their arrest and demand you pay the bond over the phone.

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t call for warrants or ask for money over the phone.  Federal officers won’t either.

Authorities are also warning about a check scam I told you about last week.  If you get a check you aren’t expecting, do not cash it.  Simply throw it away.  CLICK HERE for more on that scam.

Local officials remind you these scammers can be extremely convincing.  Never give out personal information over the phone.
