Alcoa Union Members Vote to Authorize Strike if Negotiations Fall Through

Information From the Evansville Courier and Press

WARRICK COUNTY -- Members of the local United Steelworkers union have unanimously voted to strike against Alcoa, according to the Evansville Courier and Press.

The action doesn’t call for an immediate strike, but it gives union leaders the authority to invoke a work stoppage at a later date.

Around 800 members of Local 104 have been working under a contract that expired on May 15th, but has been extended during negotiations.

The disagreement between the two sides appears to be over the company’s pension fund and changes to health insurance.

About 1,700 Alcoa workers are covered by the terms of the contract.  They work for facilities in Warrick County and the states of Washington, New York, Texas, Arkansas.
