
2025 DUBOIS COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION
The Annual Memorial Day Observance will be hosted by the Dubois County Veterans Council
(DCVC) @ 1000 a.m. Saturday, May 24 th , 2025 on the Courthouse Square in Jasper, IN. The
DCVC consists of ALL Veterans Organizations throughout Dubois County. Everyone is invited to
attend. Bring a chair or use the Bleachers that will be set-up for the Ceremony.
Mr. David Stockberger a U S Navy Veteran and member of American Legion Post 147, The
Legion Riders, 40/8 and Navy Club Ship #90 Jasper, IN and the current President of The Dubois
County Veterans Council will be the Master of Ceremonies. All parts of this moving ceremony
will be conducted by Grateful Citizens, and the Veteran Organizations from throughout Dubois
County. Father Luke Hassler, Pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Ireland, IN. will provide the opening
blessing/prayer and the benediction. Our Guest Speaker for this Years Memorial Day
Observance will be our Newly Elected State Senator, The Honorable Daryl Schmitt from Ireland,
IN.
Our Local Dubois County Deceased Veteran to be honored at this years Memorial Day
Observance is MSgt Dennis L. Englert, United States Marine Corps (RET). Dennis was born in
Huntingburg, IN, on March 24th, 1951 to Hilbert and Helen (Gehlhausen) Englert. Dennis was a
1969 Graduate of Jasper High School, and earned an Associate Degree from Vincennes
University.
Dennis was a Marine Corps Combat Veteran obtaining the Rank of Master Sergeant in his over
22 Years of Service to our Country. During his Impressive and Distinguished career in Logistics
and Supply Operations, he served around the Globe and Throughout the United States of
America. After graduating Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC, he moved on to additional training at
Camp LeJeune, NC. He continued his service at the Naval Station in Memphis, TN, Marine Corps
Air Station Yuma, AZ (Twice), Iwakuni, Japan (Twice), Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, CA. San
Diago & Anaheim, CA. Okinawa, Japan, Naval Station Glenview, IL. Camp Pendelton CA, and
Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC from where he retired. During Combat Operations in
the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, he served aboard the U.S.S. Nassau, an Amphibious Ship
with Embarked Marines and they struck a sea mine.
MSgt Dennis Englert passed away February 27 th , 2024. He is survived by his wife Mary Frances
(Mendivil) Englert of 48 years of Marriage, 2 Daughters, 5 Grandchildren, 2 Sisters, & 2
Brothers, many who will attend this year’s Memorial Service. Dennis was a Life member of
Many Organizations here in Dubois County. He was a Long Serving Adjutant and Plank Holder
with the Marine Corps League, Sothern Indiana Leatherneck Detachment 931, VFW Post 673

here in Jasper & American Legion Post 147, The Moose Lodge & Jasper Outdoor Recreation. As
well as a Long serving member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
ALL VETERANS, who have passed away since last year’s Memorial Day Observance will be
remembered with a Bell Ceremony and Reading of The Names. All deceased Veterans will be
Honored & Remembered with a 21 Gun Salute and the National Anthem & “Taps” played by our
Newest Elected Congressman and Jasper Native, The Honorable Mark Messmer, who has
ALWAYS given of himself to support all veterans across the board.
A reception will be held following the completion of the ceremony at American Legion Post 147
here in Jasper, IN. for the family & friends of MSgt Dennis Englert and for all participants &
Guests of the ceremony. We encourage and invite all citizens throughout the county to attend
this moving ceremony and HONOR ALL OF OUR FALLEN VETERANS.
