2019 Jasper Strassenfest German Heritage Night to be Held Thursday With Opening Ceremonies

FROM LOCAL SOURCES

JASPER -- The 2019 Jasper Strassenfest will feature an entire German Heritage night.

Thursday night starting 5:30pm, the Main Stage at the Strassenfest is dedicated to continuous FREE German Heritage Events, Entertainment and Games.

The German Heritage Committee worked to create new entertainment inside Opening Ceremonies, and new events following Opening Ceremonies.  Thanks to Chocolate Bliss and Rotary Club, that have taken on two NEW German Heritage events, that will continue under their control for years in the future.

The German Heritage Committee learned a traditional Bavarian dance called the Landler that will be performed on Thursday evening in front of Main Stage.

Courtney Heberer, Music teacher at Jasper High School, composed a Strassenfest Waltz.  The song will be debuted during a Waltz Demonstration in front of Main Stage.

Birnie and Margie Jeffries and a dedicated group German Club members learned a waltz to accompany the Strassenfest Waltz.  At the conclusion of the prepared waltz, the song will be played again.  Members of the Waltz group will invite members of the crowd to learn the waltz as the song is played a second time.   A Snowball Waltz in August sounds very refreshing.

The Rotary Club of Jasper will be sponsoring a NEW event called “Learn to Dance the Schuhplattler”.  The Rotary Club will teach the crowd the steps to the dance.  Then the participants get to dance the song at different speeds.  At the end of the event, the Rotary Club hands out FREE sugar cookies and bottled water.

Chocolate Bliss will be sponsoring “Schokospiel (a Chocolate Game)”, another NEW event.  Ann Knies from Chocolate Bliss is providing 300 Special Design chocolates prizes and 6 Special Design Grand Prize chocolates for the game.  At the end of the game Chocolate Bliss will open for the children to redeem winning wooden nickels for the chocolate prizes.

The Lions Club will continue their long term sponsorship of the Box Parade.  This fun Dubois County tradition is a crowd favorite for kids of all ages.
