$10 Million Available to Develop Teachers in STEM Subjects

From State Sources

STATEWIDE -- The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is accepting applications for STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund grants until Friday, July 12, 2019, at 5 p.m. EDT. The grants are awarded to local organizations and colleges to support programs that recruit, prepare, place and retain educators in Indiana schools with teacher shortages in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subject areas.

“As Indiana’s STEM occupations continue to grow, it’s imperative that we increase the number of high-quality STEM teachers in Hoosier schools,” Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers said. “We’ve seen this program yield promising results and are looking forward to the positive impact these future teachers will have on students in STEM fields.”

The full grant application and budget worksheet are available on the Commission’s website.

To be eligible for the grant, organizations must present programs that result in individuals becoming licensed or trained to teach science, technology, engineering, or math in Indiana public K-12 schools. Individuals receiving program support through the grant must seek employment in an eligible Indiana public school.

The STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund has supported over 1,000 new educators in high-demand STEM fields since the Commission began administering the program in 2015. Winning entries will be announced in August 2019.
