Patoka lake Bow Hunters will host a "30" Target 3D shoot on Sunday August 18th & 19th at Patoka Lake Archery Range near Wickliffe. Participants should use the main entrance to Patoka Lake off State Road 164. Registration on Sunday starts at Daylight till 12:00pm. Shooting fees are $8.00 for Active PLB members, $10.00 for Nonmembers and $5.00 for Youth (age 11-17) while Cubs (10 & younger) and Active Military shoot for free. Youth deer hunt applications are now being accepted online through Aug. 21. Youth must be 17 or younger on the hunt date and accompanied by a mentor, defined as a licensed hunter, 18 years or older. The mentor is not eligible to hunt or carry a firearm for this hunt.

Hunt dates and gamer bird areas are chosen by random drawing.
Fun in the sun at Patoka leaves a lot more behind than just summer memories. It results in trash and debris buildup along the lakeshore. Patoka Lake needs your help to restore the lake to its pristine condition for wildlife safety and people to enjoy. Please help remove trash and debris from the shores of Patoka Lake on Saturday, August 25th from 8–11 AM. Sign-in begins at 8a.m. at US Army Corps of Engineers Office, next to the Dam/Spillway, with trash pickup to follow. All participating volunteers will be rewarded with a FREE lunch at the Army Corps Office starting at 11 a.m. Door prize will also be awarded. Volunteers should wear sturdy walking shoes. All supplies will be provided, just bring your family, friends, students and club members!
An Indiana Hunter Ed. Course will be held at the Doverhill Christian Union Church located 4 miles north of Shows on Hwy. 450 Thursday, Sept. 13, Friday, Sept. 14 & Saturday, Sept. 15. All instruction will be by Indiana Conservation Officers and certified Indiana volunteer Hunter Ed. Instructors. There is no charge for attending the class. Hunter Ed. Certification is required for all persons born after Dec. 31, 1986 who wish to purchase an Indiana hunting license. To register go to pass it on Indiana dot com.
The 17th annual “Wheelin’ IN the Fish” will be held at Osborn Boat Ramp, Patoka Lake on Saturday, September 15 from 10a.m. – 2p.m. This free fishing event promotes the accessible features of Patoka Lake for participants with special needs and their families. Whether confined to a wheelchair or any other circumstance that doesn't allow them to live alone, bring those folks out to join us for FREE fishing, FREE boat rides and FREE lunch! If you work for a nursing home, group home, or in home health service- (or have family members in one of these facilities) get your patrons outdoors and into the fun!! Everything they need will be provided from fishing poles to tackle and refreshments too. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Patoka Bass Anglers, and Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living (SICIL) host this annual event. Bring lawn chairs and sunscreen to enjoy the day at Patoka Lake. Certificates and door prizes will be awarded to all participants!
Monroe reservoir and Paynetown SRA will be offering a variety of programs in the next few weeks . Sept. 4 and Oct. 2 you can work on your flora identification skills. Emphasis on these field days will be the proper application of an ID key, whichopens the door to identifying thousands of species. The naturalist will work with each attendee based on their prior experience. Sessions take place on the first Tuesday of each month from May through October at different locations around Monroe Lake. Tuesday, Sept. 4 will be held at 9:30 AM at Stillwater marsh. Please register by Sept. 1. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 9:30 will be at Fairfax SRA. Register by Sept. 29.
Furs, Fins and Feathers will take place Sept. 15 at Paynetown SRA. There will be free presentations, activities and emos on electro fishing, aquatic mammals, deer and waterfowl. Open fishing for all ages. Equipment and bait provided but adults must have a fishing license. There will be a live animal program with snakes and birds of prey. The first program begins at 12:30 PM and activities are scheduled throughout the afternoon and early evening.
On Sept. 17 & Oct. 29 you can bring a sack lunch and enjo9y the monthly lunch with nature series. Afterwards there will be a short hike. Sept. 17’s topic will be Eastern old growth forests and Oct. 29th topic will be eastern coyotes. Both programs start at 11 AM.
Sept. 18 and Oct. 9 you can explore the quieter side of Monroe Lake during guided paddling trips that journey through the backwaters, wetlands, bays and slow moving streams. Cost is $10 per person. Each trip is limited to 10 people aged 16 and over. Bring your own kayak/canoe or rent a kayak for an additional $20. All participants must have at least 2 hours of prior padding experience or have completed one of their intro to kayaking workshops.
National public lands day is Sept. 22 offering free admission to all Indiana state parks. A campfire cooking workshop will be held Sept. 23 at Paynetown SRA. You’ll learn different techniques and recipes for cooking with an open wood burning fire. Participants will prepare, cook and eat a variety of food. Everyone takes home a set of recipes. Cost is $20 per person and is limited to 8 people. Please register by Sept. 16 by emailing [email protected].
Youth and adults interested in waterfowl hunting and waterfowl observation are invited to help clean, repair and camouflage the waterfowl hunting blinds in the Stillwater Northfork Waterfowl area. The day will include a short training session on waterfowl blinds and waterfowl management program. Lunch will be provided for all participants. Bring work gloves and any hand tools you feel will be helpful. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Donations of vegetables or meat for the stew at lunch are welcome but not necessary. Please call the Monroe Lake Office at 812-837-9546 and ask for Rex Watters. You’ll need to meet at 9 AM at the Norfork Check Station located east of Bloomington off of St. Rd. 46.
Oct. 7 Monroe Lake will conduct a shoreline cleanup at Cutright SRA. You will be transported by boat to areas of the shoreline that are difficult to reach by other means. Orientation begins at 2:30 PM. Cleanup ends at 6:30 PM. A free cookout will be held afterwards for all volunteers. All volunteers must be at least 10 years old. Register by Oct. 4.
