Firefighters with the Jasper Fire Department responded to a fire run at a vacant house on Newton Street at about 4:34 this morning.
According to a Jasper Police report, a call came in from a neighbor that the house at 1308 Newton Street was on fire.
The Jasper Fire Department responded and found the rear exterior of the home in flames. A sofa located there was also on fire and the neighbor was attempting to put out the flames with a garden hose.
The home sustained around $10,000 in damages to the exterior and minor smoke and water damage to the interior.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Jasper Fire Department and Jasper Police Department.
Twenty-eight firefighters and 4 trucks were on scene for about an hour. Newton Street was closed to traffic as well.
