Police Activity Report


A deer ran into the road on SR 162 just north of the Ferdinand Town limits Wednesday at 6:15 pm and struck a Ford Flex driven by 71 year old Lois Davidson of the Ferdinand area.

The deer ran into the driver’s side door and fender, causing around $4,000.00 in damages.

Davidson did not report any injuries from the accident.


A two-vehicle rear-end accident occurred Wednesday at 12:58 pm on Jasper’s north side, where 53 year old Dirk Arning of Dale was stopped at the traffic light at 36th and Newton Streets, when his 2010 Cadillac SRX was struck from behind by a 2002 GMC Envoy driven by 35 Matthew Cates of Jasper.

Cates told officers he accelerated because he thought the vehicle in front of him had too.

Both Dirk and his passenger, 54 year old Julia Arning complained of neck pain. Dirk with back pain. Julia with dizziness and was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Cates did not report any injuries.

He was cited for Following Too Closely and for not having insurance.

$3,000.00 in damages to both vehicles.


The Dubois County Sheriff Department is looking for those responsible for a burglary that took place between last Friday and this morning in the 10000 block of SR 56 in the Hillham area.

A Dubois County Sheriff Department report says that someone entered a garage and outbuilding owned by Steve Enlow and took a tool box, Echo trimmer, a Toro riding mower, and two ladders. Total estimated value of the items is $2,700.00.
