Even though the District competition has been eliminated in the ISSMA lineup of weekly contests, Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium in Jasper kept busy Saturday with the new Scholastic Preliminary and Open Class contests.
The Open Class categories were filled with bands in Classes B through D as they have been in years past in the District competitions.
In Open Class B, Jasper attained a Gold rating with distinction in Music, Visual and General Effect. Evansville Central was the only other band in Class B and also picked up a Gold rating.
In Open Class C, Southridge, Pike Central, Boonville and Reitz Memorial all attained Gold ratings.
Southridge picked up distinctions in Music and Visual.
In Open Class D, Forest Park attained a Gold rating with distinctions in Music, Visual and General Effect.
Springs Valley, Crawford County, Perry Central and Orleans also got Gold ratings. Tell City came away with a Silver rating.
The Scholastic classes were Small and Large.
Northeast Dubois was awarded a Silver rating in the Small class.
The Scholastic performances were created to help schools with smaller bands compete for a chance to perform in final competition on October 26th at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis.
All Open Class Bands move on to Regional Competition this Saturday. Jasper, Forest Park and Springs Valley will all march at Evansville Central while Southridge will march at Center Grove High School in Greenwood.
