DEVELOPING — New Details in Murder Soon

DUBOIS CO. — New details are expected today in the murder of Darin Atkins near Birdseye back in mid July.

Detectives with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a news conference this afternoon at 2 p.m.

We know it’s about the Atkins case but we do NOT yet know what investigators will announce.

At this point, we know of no arrests or suspects.

Chicken Sandwich Lands Jasper Man in Jail

JASPER — A man, mad over a chicken sandwich, was arrested yesterday after creating a scene inside the Jasper North McDonald’s near Wal Mart.

Police say Michael Fryou was refunded his money but still refused to leave the restaurant.

Police were called in just before 4:30 and arrested the man.

He’s charged with disorderly conduct and trespass.


Braun Senate Announcement Expected Next Week

JASPER — As we’ve been reporting, Jasper State Representative Mike Braun has been mulling a US Senate run.

Now, we’re told, an official announcement could come in the next week or so.

Braun believes Republicans want an alternative to the two congressman who are already in the race and believes he’s the man to do it.

The Jasper Republican will be facing off in the Republican Primary against Rep. Luke Messer and Rep. Todd Rokita.  The Republicans hope to unseat Democrat Joe Donnelly in the 2018 midterm elections.

Braun, a Jasper native, owns Meyer Distributing in Jasper and currently represents Dubois and surrounding counties in the Indiana Genera Assembly.


Woman Killed in Pike Co. Fire Identified

PETERSBURG —  Officials have identified the woman killed in a house fire near Petersburg Monday.

Police say 77-year-old Dorothy Kinman got out with two others in the home but ran back into the burning house to retrieve some items from inside.

Kinman’s husband and daughter escaped unharmed.

The fire is under investigation, but the state’s Fire Marshall’s Office does NOT believe foul play was involved.


Jasper Strassenfest Begins Thursday

JASPER —   The Jasper Strassen-Fest officially kicks off tomorrow with opening ceremonies at the Main Stage in the court house square at 6:15 p.m.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Tradition, Building our Future.”

Another U.S. 231 Bridge Project Announced

JASPER — Work will begin between Jasper and Huntingburg next week.

INDOT will begin restricting the southbound lane of the U.S. 231 Bridge spanning Hunley Creek beginning Monday, August 7th, depending on weather.

The closure is for bridge deck overlay.

Restrictions will be in place around the clock until the work is complete.

Loads over 13 feet will need to find another route.

Use caution in the area.
