Blaze Destroys Rocky Point BBQ & Grille

CANNELTON — A Perry County staple went up in flames yesterday.

Fire crews with Cannelton and Tell City Fire Departments responded to the fire at the Rocky Point BBQ & Grille just before noon Monday.

That’s located at the Rocky Point Marina in Cannelton.

Video shot by Perry County News shows the restaurant fully engulfed in flames, as firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.

No reports of injuries.

At this time, we have no word on what sparked the fire.

Jasper Pair Arrested on Felony Drug Charges

JASPER — A Jasper pair was arrested Monday morning on multiple felony charges.

Police stopped a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Darryl Russell around 10:30 a.m. for speeding and for having false plates.

During the stop, officers report they noticed indicators that led them to believe Russell was under the influence of meth.

Police also discovered his passenger… 27-year-old Nicole Beavers  … had multiple warrants out of Orange County.


During the arrest, police say Beavers admitted to concealing a syringe in her pants.  Police also say they found a gram and a half of meth.

Russell allegedly admitted to having more meth at the Camelot Inn … where he was staying.

Police found another half gram of meth there,  in addition to more syringes, paraphernalia and marijuana.

Russell is charged with possession of meth, a syringe, marijuana and paraphernalia.

He’s also charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

In addition to her 3 warrants out of Orange County, Beavers is charged with Possession of meth and a syringe.

She’s also charged with Visiting a Common Nuisance.


Spencer Co. Woman to Plead Guilty to Child Molestation

SPENCER CO. — A Spencer County woman is expected to plead guilty to child molesting later this week.

Angela Ward is scheduled to go before a judge on Friday.  That’s when she is expected to plead guilty to the sex crimes she was arrested for back in 2016.

Ward is accused of having sex with a young boy several times.

She claims she knew the encounters were wrong, but tells investigators she was forced to do it by another man, Jason Tribbie.

He pleaded guilty in the same case back in October.

He’ll serve 17 years in prison on several charges of aiding, inducing or causing sexual misconduct with a minor.

Investigators with Indiana State Police say it was Tribbie who tipped them off about Ward.



USI Suspends Frat Over Hazing and Alcohol Allegations

EVANSVILLE —  USI officials continue to investigate hazing and alcohol allegations against the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

We now know the university suspended the frat back in October over allegations, school officials say, violated the institution’s policies on alcohol and hazing.

On it’s website, the fraternity states it has a zero tolerance hazing policy and claims to provide alcohol-free student housing.

School officials say the fraternity will remain suspended until the investigation is complete.


Masterbrand Employees Donate to Buy Gifts for Christmas

FERDINAND — A group of Masterbrand employees are banding together to give some needy families in our area a brighter Christmas this year.

The employees on the night shift in the company’s Ferdinand shipping department raised $464 dollars for Mentors for Youth of Dubois County.

Masterbrand matched the donation for a total of $928 dollars.

That donation will allow Mentors for Youth to provide Christmas gifts to 10 local families who are in need this holiday.
