Hartke Sentenced in Drunk Driving Deaths of 3 Family Members

GREEN COUNTY — A 15 year sentence was handed down yesterday in a Green County court against Jasper native Mason Hartke, the 20 – year – old who plead guilty to killing 3 members of a Newburgh family in a drunk driving accident last year.

The accident last November on I-69 in Green County killed 17-year-old Sophie Rinehart, her father, 46-year-old David Rinehart and her grandmother 74-year-old Ruth Rinehart.

Police say Hartke’s blood alcohol content was a .16 about two hours after the fatal crash.


Gov. to Make Next Level Announcement in Jasper Today

JASPER — Another trip to Jasper for Indiana governor Eric Holcomb.

The governor is expected to make a Next Level roads announcement when he speaks at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce meeting today.

That’s at noon at Klub Haus 61.

Huntingburg Christmas Stroll Kicks Off Thursday

HUNTINGBURG — Get ready to start decking the halls!  The 32nd annual Huntingburg Christmas stroll will officially kick the holiday season off this week.
It begins Thursday at 10 a-m with shopping deals on 4th Street and the tree lighting ceremony at City Hall at 7:15 p.m.

The festivities will continue through Sunday.

A new contest this year will give 4th street merchants a chance to show off their holiday spirit.

A store window decoration contest will award a prize for the best window display.



Ferdinand Chamber Holds Annual Dinner

FERDINAND — The Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce held a dinner last night at the community center.

Hundreds turned out for the annual even, which showcases the businesses and people that make Ferdinand the town that it is.

Andy Olinger was honored at last night’s dinner with a community service award for his years of service to Ferdinand and Dubois County.

Jasper Engines CEO Doug Bawel was the keynote speaker at last night’s chamber dinner.


Dubois County Treasurer Kitty Merkley would like to remind Dubois County taxpayers that because of the Veterans Day Holiday being observed on November 10th, and the Courthouse being closed, the fall installment due date has been extended to Monday, November 13, 2017.


Fall Tax Installment Due Date Approaching

DUBOIS CO. — The Treasurer’s Office will not be open on Friday, November 10th however, they will be open on Saturday, November 4, from 8:00 until 12:00 and until 5:00pm on deadline day Monday, November 13th.

Payment for property taxes may be sent to the courthouse, delivered in person to the Treasurer’s Office or placed in the night deposit box located on the corner of the Annex Building at Sixth and Jackson Streets in Jasper.

If a taxpayer would like a receipt returned to them, they must include a self-addressed stamped envelope as well as the “C” portion of the tax statement with their payment.  Payments may be sent to the Dubois County Treasurer at:
