Jasper Police Ask For Public’s Help in Hit & Run 

JASPER — Jasper Police asking for the public’s help in a hit and run crash Tuesday afternoon.

Police say it happened around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday on Newton Street in front of True Value.

The driver of a black, older model pickup truck, driven by a young male, crashed into another car when slowing for traffic ahead.

Police say the pick up truck continued northbound on Newton.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has other information in this case is urged to contact Jasper Police – or the anonymous tip line at (812) 482 -COPS.


Jasper Man Jailed On Child Molesting & Other Charges

JASPER — A Jasper Man is in jail today facing multiple charges.  52-year-old Alejandro Hernandez was arrested Tuesday, accused of molesting a juvenile over an extended period of time.

He’s charged with 3 felonies; 2 counts of child molesting and 1 count of criminal confinement.

Hernandez is lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.


KY Woman Jailed In Jasper on Drug / Other Charges

JASPER — A Kentucky woman was arrested in Jasper Wednesday facing several charges.

Police were called to a home in the 400 block of East 5th Street in Jasper regarding a disturbance inside.

Police say Ashley Sowder got into a physical fight with a male at the home.

During the investigation, police allege they found meth in Sowder’s possession.

She’s charged with Domestic Battery, Possession of methamphetamine and residential entry.

Those are ALL level 6 felonies.

Sowder is lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.


Huntingburg Competition Held to Showcase Entrepreneurs

HUNTINGBURG — A competition this week in Huntingburg showcased entrepreneurs and startups.

Current Blend in Huntingburg teamed up with Elevate Southwest Indiana Tuesday for the pitch event.

The partnership also includes the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana and Elevate  Ventures.

Individuals and teams shared their business, innovation or entrepreneurial idea before a panel of judges in the hopes of winning prize money to invest in their startup.

Judges scored participants on team, market fit, product /solution, customer traction and their overall presentations.

Parasite ID took home FIRST place and $4,000 dollars to help fund their startup.


Organizers hope the event will help kick start the entrepreneurial community in our area and the ideas residents here have.

9 individuals and teams participated in the event.
