You Can’t Buy Alcohol This New Year’s Eve

STATEWIDE — If you plan on ringing in the upcoming New Year with champagne or other alcohol, you need to plan ahead.

New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday this year, and since Indiana law bans alcohol sales on Sunday, you’ll have to get it sometime during the week.

This only applies to carry out sales.  Restaurants and pubs still sell alcohol on Sundays, but you have to drink it at the establishment.

If you forget and you’re in a pinch on New Year’s Eve, you can cross the boarder to Kentucky where Sunday alcohol sales are allowed.

You can also check out local wineries and distilleries.  Those types of businesses aren’t effected by the Sunday sales ban.

IN Officials Urge You to Get REAL ID Upgrade

STATEWIDE — Indiana officials are urging all residents to update their driver’s license or state ID card.

State issued ID’s need to be upgraded to a credential mandated since the September 11 terror attacks.

The Northwest Indiana Times reports many residents have been permitted to renew their credentials without upgrading to the REAL ID.

But, beginning in October of 2020, if you don’t have the upgraded REAL ID, you will be barred from boarding commercial aircraft, entering federal courthouses, military bases and other security-sensitive facilities.

You can get your REAL ID credentials at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Indiana governor Eric Holcomb recently upgraded his.  He urges you to do the same sooner rather than later.
