Indiana State Police Warn About Scam Phone Calls

State Police Sergeant Chad Dick of the Jasper post says that they have fielded a number of complaints this week from the public about winning the “Lottery/Powerball/Sweepstakes.”

The callers from the “Lottery” advise that you have won the lottery and all you have to do is send money for shipping and handling of your winnings.

Dick warns residents that this is a scam.

He says, “DO NOT send money. DO NOT out give any personal information to the caller i.e. Name/DOB/SSN. Instead tell them to remove you from their call list. Remember if it sounds to good to be true…it probably is!!”

Law enforcement agencies like the State Police say that these types of scams are becoming more common and prey especially on the elderly.
