Greater Jasper School Board Hears Need for Softball Field House

The Greater Jasper School Board listened to Jasper Girls Softball Coach Matt Pryor and Boosters Club President Jay Baker along with John Krempp during Monday night’s meeting as they presented the need for a new training facility to help with the growing demand for the sport in the Jasper area.

Pryor asked the Board to allow the construction of a field house between the two softball fields on the Jasper Campus which would contain batting cages, locker rooms and offices as well as practice space.

Pryor told the Board that a non-for-profit organization would be set up to solicit donations for the project from the public, with hopes of having the building completed in three to five years.  The estimated cost is $300,000.00

He also said that they have had to turn away girls from the team because they do not have enough space for them to practice.

They are currently using the Baseball Field House at Ruxer Field at the generosity of Terry Gobert and the Jasper Baseball program.

The Board gave their blessing to the project as it is started in earnest.

Also during the Board Meeting, Assistant Superintendent Bob Hacker and Board Attorney Art Nordhoff were selected to open bids on the 10th Street School roof repair project.  VPS Architecture will send out the bid packets yet this week and the bids will be opened in a special meeting on April 2nd in the School Administration Offices.  The goal is to begin the project after school is out for the summer break.
