From the Evansville Courier & Press and the Herald:
Ferdinand — The Indiana State Police investigation in an 18-year-old cold case involving a Perry County teen moved to Ferdinand’s new town lake off Ferdinand Road East Wednesday morning.
13 year old Ricky Lane Thomas, Jr. of Bristow, disappeared without a trace in 1997. State police revealed last month that they had received a tip that his body may be in the lake east of Ferdinand. A dive team went to work at the lake Wednesday.
Thomas was last seen Nov. 6, 1997, when he reportedly left his Bristow home to walk to a cousin’s house about a mile and a half away. Police, friends, relatives and neighbors launched an extensive search around the boy’s Perry County home, but could find no trace of the youth.
“America’s Most Wanted” profiled Ricky’s disappearance, which led to investigators receiving leads from as far away as Oregon and Florida.
At the time of his disappearance, Thomas was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighed about 170 pounds, and had sandy brown hair.
Thomas’ information, including his dental records, were entered into the National Crime Information Center. His case is listed as an unsolved cold case homicide by the state police and he is among the missing children profiled by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Anyone with information on Ricky’s disappearance should call Indiana State Police Jasper post at 812-482-1441.
